Will the treatment hurt?
No, a root canal is a relatively calm procedure, much like a filling or crown. We will numb the area using local anesthetic. In some cases the tooth is 'hyper' and is more difficult to numb, in these cases we will allow more time for numbing or bring you back once the tooth has calmed down. Your comfort is our priority!
How long does the treatment take?
In most cases the full procedure takes an hour and a half. At times we may have to bring you back to complete treatment. This happens if the tooth is very infected or inflamed.
Can I eat before my appointment?
Yes, we use local anesthetic just like in a filling procedure. We encourage you to eat before you come because you will be numb after treatment.
Do I need a driver?
No, as long as you have not taken any medication (i.e. Halcion, Valium, etc.) We use local anesthetic so you will be able to drive on your own.
Why should I see an endodontist?
While it is true that general dentists often do root canals, they may send you to an endodontist. Some root canals are more complicated than others and require more time or skill. Endodontists have gone through more schooling in order to specialize in endodontic therapy and often times have more experience then most general dentists.
